Hey bro, help me out!
Specialised Sequencer Controller module for Eurorack
What does it do?
Hey bro, help me out! is made with Moog DFAM in mind, and is - by having a second output - compatible with other 8-step sequencers.
The module offers full control over the connected sequencer(s) through Control Voltage (CV) and a hands-on interface. This adds many possibilities for integration, exploration & playability - fun stuff!
Why?
I love DFAM for its playability and sounds, but it has a few limitations. I wanted to open up its sequencer to use it more frequently and in different ways within my Eurorack system.
The option to connect a second sequencer - and control them simultaneously - really allows you to dive deep.
Features
Sequencer control
Clock Sync
Synchronize sequencers to an external CLOCK (24PPQN) & RUN or RESET signal. Hey bro, help me out! has an internal high-resolution clock based on an external clock input.
Run Direction
Switch between forward, backward and random run directions. You can control the direction via the external CV input too.
Run Speed
Change the run speed by 1/16, 1/8 & 1/4, or 1/12, 1/6 & 1/3 in triplet mode.
Burst (Ratcheting)
The Burst button adds extra depth to playing your DFAM by allowing you to repeat the current playing step. Great for fills.
Groovy
For each of the playback speeds & clock settings there are two types of Grooves available.
Sequencer Reset
Resets the sequencer on RUN stop or RESET trigger.
Interface
Individual Trigger Inputs
Navigate to each step on the sequencer with its own trigger input. You can combine these steps with the sync modes to create new patterns, for example a 5-step sequence.
CV In
The Sequencer Direction is available through the CV In jack. Sync up some LFO's and have fun.
Gate In
Burst lets you repeat the current playing step. Burst is available through a Gate input or the tactile button.
Hold Button
The HOLD button is a nifty performance feature. It allows you to lock the current settings, where you can adjust them without immidiate effect. You can then apply those settings whenever you want.
Outputs
Hey bro, help me out! has two seperate outputs. These outputs can be configured to serve your needs.
Output A
Output A is configured to connect your Moog DFAM or other capable device (see below).
Output B
Configurable output that either provides a trigger when DFAM moves a step, a randomised version of this trigger, or a second sequencer (see below).

8HP
~ 42mm deep
CV In: 0 - 10V
Trigger Out: 10V

Hey Bro, help me out! retains the hands-on character that makes Moog DFAM so much fun to play. Its incredibly nice to extend the performative aspect of the synthesizer.

Highlights
Built for DFAM, compatible with others
Hey bro, help me out! should work with many sequencer type modules that can handle audio-rate clocking speeds and work with a 'advance-per-trigger'-type clocking mechanism.
The following devices are tested and are compatible:
-
Moog DFAM (Output A)
-
Behringer Edge (Output A)
-
Behringer System 55 960 Sequential Controller (Output A)
-
Moog Labyrinth (Output A) *
-
Joranalogue Step 8 (Output B)
-
Verbos Voltage Multistage (Output B)
-
Transient Modules 8S (Output B)
-
Make Noise 0-CTRL Analog Sequencer (Output B)
-
Doepfer A-155 Analog/Trigger Sequencer (Output B)
Each sequencer has certain specifications for the maximum rate it can handle incoming triggers. New devices will be added to this list when these have been tested, and possible specifications are implemented in the firmware.
This list will be updated with new devices ASAP. I will also post more in-depth findings on the behaviour for each of these sequencers.
Combining sequencers
Hey bro, help me out! allows you to run multiple devices with their own specifications. This means you can these sequencers together, ideal to add a second sequencer to DFAM.
Knob-per-function interface
DFAM is very hands-on and so is Hey bro, help me out! Its knob-per-function design makes it a very playable device, just like DFAM itself.
Pre-orders
Get on the list
I'm currently taking pre-orders in the form of a reservation. Fill in the form here to reserve your module of the first batch.
I will invoice you when all parts are in and the production starts. When providing a valid EU VAT number i can sell to you without VAT (within EU, excl. NL).

Questions
Can it do sequences shorter than 8 steps?
Yes! You can combine an individual trigger input as a reset with one of the clocked modes to create shorter sequences, or just use a few of the individual trigger inputs to create your own.
When will this module start shipping?
I'm waiting for the final PCBs and frontpanels to come in, as well as getting all necessary parts for the first batch in stock. The code is ~ 90% completed and gearing up for a solid 1.0. Sign up for the newsletter and follow me on Instagram for the latest updates on its progress.
