Get started
These are the basics you need to get started with Hey bro, help me out!
- Set the three 3-way switches on the left side of the module to their upper position ('FWD', 'FAST' & '%4'). Set the Groove switch to the left position ('OFF').
- Connect a clock source with the resolution of 24PPQN to the
CLKinput on the module. - Connect the RUN signal from your clock source to the
RUNinput on the module. - Connect
Output Ato theADV/CLOCKinput on DFAM. - Make sure your DFAM is set to step 8 by using the black 'ADVANCE' button. The module expects DFAM to be at step 8.
- Activate the red 'RUN/STOP' button on DFAM.
- Activate the clock source. Your DFAM should run at an 16th interval and forward.
- Get familiar with the controls and have fun!
Panel controls
Clock mode
Sets the subdivision the main clock fires on.
| Position | Legend | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Up | %4 | Straight divisions — 1/4, 1/8, 1/16. |
| Middle | %3 | Triplet divisions — 1/2T, 1/4T, 1/8T. |
| Down | OFF | No events fired; clock keeps running. |
In the 'OFF' position the internal clock continues to run, so switching back to '%4' or '%3' resumes in phase rather than restarting.
Run speed
Sets the step rate sent to the DFAM or other connected sequencer. The resulting rate depends on the Clock mode switch:
| Position | Legend | Straight (%4) | Triplet (%3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up | FAST | 1/16 (16/bar) | 1/8T (12/bar) |
| Middle | MED | 1/8 (8/bar) | 1/4T (6/bar) |
| Down | SLOW | 1/4 (4/bar) | 1/2T (3/bar) |
Note that each triplet rate is slower than the straight rate at the same switch position. Switching from '%4' to '%3' without changing Run speed drops the step rate to three quarters of its previous value.
Direction
Sets the playback direction of the sequencer.
| Position | Legend | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Up | FWD | Steps advance 1 → 8. |
| Middle | RND | A random step is selected on each clock. |
| Down | BCK | Steps advance 8 → 1. |
Steps may repeat in 'RND' mode.
Direction is also available via the CV In jack
Groove
Applies a groove template to the clock output, shifting the timing of individual steps.
| Position | Legend | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Left | OFF | No groove — steps land on the grid. |
| Middle | I | Selects groove type I. |
| Right | II | Selects groove type II. |
For each type of Run Speed there is a different template available. Use the Knob to set the level of step shift.
Burst (retrigger)
The large button at the bottom of the module retriggers the current step on the DFAM or other connected sequencer at twice the current Run speed. Burst is momentary — retriggering continues for as long as the button is held.
Burst follows the grid set by Clock mode, so in '%3' it retriggers at twice the selected triplet rate. When a Groove template is active, burst follows that template rather than firing evenly.
Burst is also available via the GATE input, where it is active for the duration of the incoming gate.
Hold
Switch changes normally take effect immediately. Hold defers them to the start of the next bar.
Press and hold the HOLD button while changing any of the switches — the new settings are applied on the next bar line, and the LED flashes while a change is pending. Hold does not affect the Groove knob, which always takes effect immediately.
Note that this is a timing function — it does not sustain or hold steps.
Individual Trigger Inputs (1-8)
Sending a trigger to one of the 8 individual trigger inputs jumps the DFAM or other connected sequencer to the corresponding step. The sequence then continues from that step in the current Direction.
